Stronger Together through Movement

Physical literacy builds healthier, more confident and competent people, and stronger societies. IPLC France 2026 brings together leaders, policy makers, practitioners, educators, researchers, environmental planners, and changemakers from across the education, health, physical activity and sport sectors. Under the theme Stronger Together through Movement, we’ll explore what physical literacy looks like across the lifespan, how we integrate it from participation through to policy, and how we turn cutting-edge research into practical tools for those on the front lines. This is where solutions are shared, ideas are sparked, and physical literacy is brought to life in practice.

Conference Streams

The program is organized around four streams, each featuring research presentations, case studies, innovative practices, practical tools, and interactive workshops. Content will be relevant to all levels of physical literacy knowledge and experience.

Physical Literacy for Everyone

Advancing equitable access through inclusive and adapted programming for lifelong development of physical literacy.

Barriers still keep many people from developing physical literacy. Those who have the opportunity don’t always feel welcome or safe in sport and physical activity programs. Even those who stay physically active don’t always build confidence, competence and motivation. This stream examines how to remove barriers, create environments where people belong, and ensure everyone can be active for life.

Examples of what this stream explores include:
  • Identifying and addressing systemic barriers (e.g., financial, transportation, language, discrimination, and more) that limit access and participation
  • Creating and developing programs where people feel welcome, safe, and want to return
  • What’s working across different countries, sectors and contexts for equity-deserving populations
  • Strengthening inclusive leadership — why representation in coaching and program design matters

Health and Prevention

Addressing inactivity and supporting wellbeing through physical literacy.

Inactivity is a leading risk factor for chronic disease and costs health systems billions annually. Physical literacy is an important component of healthier living and lifelong physical activity; yet it isn’t considered in most health strategies. The evidence for physical literacy as a determinant of health keeps growing. The investment doesn’t.
Examples of what this stream explores include:
  • Advancing physical literacy as a core determinant of health within policy, planning, and health system investment
  • Physical literacy and mental well-being: the evidence, and why it’s reshaping the conversation
  • Breaking down silos between public health, education, recreation, and sport to create coordinated, person-centred systems
  • Strengthening physical literacy development and maintenance across the lifespan, benefiting the health of individuals from early childhood through older adulthood

Research and Innovation

Advancing evidence, evaluation, and emerging practices.

Across the globe, researchers are generating new evidence and practitioners are developing innovative, practical approaches to physical literacy development. But too often, what works in one country, sector, or context stays there. This stream is about the ideas, research, and innovations that deserve wider attention — and how to advance them.

Examples of what this stream explores include:
  • Identifying and scaling effective innovations that demonstrate impact across diverse contexts
  • Translating research into practical, usable tools that inform decision-making and day-to-day practice
  • What helps good ideas cross borders, sectors, and organizations
  • New tools, technologies, and approaches changing how we develop physical literacy

Quality Environments

Creating safe, meaningful, and developmentally appropriate experiences.

Quality sport and physical activity happens when good programs are delivered by good people in good places. But as simple as that concept sounds, putting it into practice isn’t always easy. This stream focuses on what quality looks like on the ground: the program design, the leaders, and the environments that create positive experiences and help develop physical literacy.

Examples of what this stream explores include:
  • Program design that develops physical literacy: participant-centred, progressive, challenging, and fun
  • Equipping and supporting coaches, leaders, officials, and parents to consistently deliver quality experiences
  • Developmentally appropriate programming — designing for participants’ development stages, not just their ages
  • Creating environments that are safe, welcoming, and set up for positive experiences
